Orlando City Hall Introduces Single Stream Recycling

Single stream, or single bin, recycling takes advantage of the fact that recyclable materials can be commingled when collected and then separated later at the recycling center. With the exception of food waste, almost all the trash material generated each day can be deposited into a single bin and subsequently recycled.

Single stream recycling will allow City Hall to decrease the amount of trash sent to the landfill and substantially increase the amount of materials sent to local recyclers.

Green Works Business Workshops

Mayor Buddy Dyer and the City of Orlando introduced Green Works Business at a workshop on October 29. This educational program shared best practices on how businesses can bridge the gap between traditional business interests and the interests of preserving and protecting the environment and building a more sustainable society. Representatives from the City of Orlando, OUC, Lynx, HD Supply, Perkins and Will and Pepsi/ Frito Lay shared how their company’s profits and operations go hand-in-hand with environment and social performance.

Green Works Business will provide an open forum that will expose businesses to new ways of measuring their bottom line. Workshop participants will learn how local companies made this shift and have embraced environmental and social accountability.
