 Call
for Resident Photos for 2011 Historic Preservation Board Calendar
|
WHAT: |
The City of Orlando Historic Preservation
Board is seeking photographs from Orlando residents for the
2011 Historic Preservation Calendar. The City of Orlando has
produced the Historic Preservation Board Calendar since 1991
as a depiction of Orlando’s treasured historic resources.
The 2011 calendar will feature historical assets of the
Holden-Parramore Historic District in black and white
photography that capture the District’s unique and distinct
styles. The Holden-Parramore Historic District was placed on
the National Register of Historic Places by the United
States Department of the Interior on September 23, 2009.
This historically African American neighborhood encompasses
most of the remaining historic resources from when the
neighborhood developed in the early decades of the twentieth
century.
The District is bound by West Church Street on the north,
McFall Avenue on the west, Long Street and West South Street
on the south and South Division Avenue on the East. The
commercial section of the District is found along the south
side of West Church Street between South Division Avenue and
South Parramore Avenue and along both sides of South
Parramore Avenue between West Church Street and Long Street.
The District encompasses approximately 20 acres and contains
a total of 106 buildings. There are five local historic
landmarks within the District, including:
- Maxey-Crooms house at 638 West
Anderson Street
- Ebeneezer Methodist Church at 596
West Church Street
- Well’s Built Hotel at 511 West South
Street
- Dr. William Monroe Wells house at 519
West South Street
- Victorian House and Cottage at 541
West South Street
A map of the district can be found
online.
