Stormwater Utility

Inspection Program

The Division inspects private stormwater retention/detention facilities to ensure they still function as they were designed and constructed. Since developments with these facilities are typically charged a discounted stormwater utility fee, it is to the property owner's advantage to maintain them. Non compliance could result in the owner being fined and the loss of any discount.

In accordance with the National Pollution Discharge Elimination System (NPDES), the Bureau is involved in enforcing municipal environmental codes dealing with the illicit discharge of polluting matters to the City's surface and ground waters. Staff works with businesses in a cooperative effort to reduce illicit discharges and bring operations into compliance.
